Busy, busy, busy...
Jun. 1st, 2009 02:40 pmSo I just had a super productive 3 day weekend... gotta love flex days!
Friday saw me at Greenhawk at 8:55 am waiting for them to open at 9 so I could buy Ariel a lightweight rain sheet as she was getting too warm in her existing one. Then it was off to the barn for 9:30... the vet (& assistant) beat me to it but they didn't seem to mind sitting in the sun waiting for me while I went to fetch Ariel. Once dopy, Ariel didn't mind the vet clamping open her mouth to check her teeth or stick a needle in each side of her neck (3-way and West Nile Virus vaccinations) but she still was unimpressed with the Strangles vaccination being squirted up her nose... at least we got it in there without too much fuss. Once she was done she got some grain as a reward, I brushed out her tail & mane while I waited for the sedation to wear off. When she was ready to go back out I put on her new rain sheet & she was good to go... & then I headed home.
I had some time before I had to be out again so I measured & cut out the material I needed to make my purple linen
Then it was off to the vet again... this time in town with Merlin for his check up... the previous Friday I'd had to take him to the vet because he was peeing very little (we're talking drops) & it was red. The vet managed to get 3 drops out of him & was able to determine that his urine's pH was 8 & that he had crystals in his bladder. He was put on special wet food which was designed to lower his pH & make him drink more. Last Friday was to see if this course of action worked. I was told to put him in his carrier so that he'd hold his pee (or failing that they could collect it from the bottom of the carrier). Well he managed to hold it... right up until I pulled up outside the vet *sigh*. They had enough to do the tests but they were hoping to x-ray him while his bladder was full to check for stones. Good news is that the pH was down to 6 & the crystals where fewer & smaller! He's on a slightly different food but one that will encourage him to drink lots & hopefully flush out any remaining crystals. Bad news is that I have to sit & watch the 2 cats while they eat to make sure that Duchess doesn't try to steal his food! This means I have to find someone to look after them even if I'm away just for the w/e. He has to go back for another check up in 2 or 4 weeks depending on how he's doing.
The rest of Friday was taken up with sewing my purple
Saturday morning we went out & bought various bits & pieces for the A&S projects we're planning on... I got a 1 1/4" x 8' piece of hemlock dowelling that will be used for a banner pole & a quintain lance! The afternoon was spent sewing two pairs of linen pants (one purple & one pale yellow) and an "under"
Then it was bed time.
Sunday saw me up early to feed the cats & while I was waiting for the boy to arise I put the various parts of my banner together. I was pretty much done when he made an appearance & cooked me pancakes for breakfast! :) Once the banner was finished I was DONE with sewing!
I spent the rest of the day doing laundry & working in the garden. I planted sugar snap peas, beans, carrots, spring (green) onions, spaghetti squash, acorn squash and two types of butternut squash, all from seed. They join the broccoli, cauliflower and leeks I planted last w/e (these were plants not seeds). My strawberry plants seem to have over wintered ok... I wonder if they will actually flower & fruit this year. I also planted a bunch of flowers (plants & seeds) last weekend too... my front flowerbed actually has flowers in it! I have two types of lavender, night scented stocks, nasturtium, sweet peas, violas, a bleeding heart, irises, campanulas and last but not least, catnip! (I think that’s everything!) I might plant some radishes tonight.
