malltI need to put up fences & I was thinking of vinyl. The neighbour originally had planned the same but then was told that the light colours chip & the dark colous fade and was persuaded to switch to cedar. Does anyone have any experience with vinyl fencing?

Honestly, few things really replace a good, pressure treated fence with well sunk posts.

They also have impact inhibitors to help against brittleness... he says it probably wont take an impact of a hockey puck at speed at -30/40C but the usual bumps should be ok. He had no incidences of hail damage last year, which was my other worry.

Date: 2011-04-01 10:19 pm (UTC)The deck floor is acting like good wood - no warping so far (even through the heat of august) it looks like boards painted a grey/taupe colour, no slivers and warm to walk on in the summer.
It was almost exactly like wood when we put everything together. And it hasn't rotted at all (which is what happened to the cedar that was on there). The deck is currently covered with snow but has survived the last three winters intact. The only thing I've noticed is that it seems to be more slippery then wood when it ices over.
My deck has pressure treated posts for a frame.
