e-books

A question for the techno-minded... I'm thinking of getting a Kindle, mainly for books I can only get in e-format & those that are stupidly cheap/free in e-format. One site I know of offers e-books in several different formats including .pdf & .mobi, both of which the Kindle supports. Does anyone know which is the better format to download in?

Ok so the general feeling I get from that is that .pdf may not be sized appropriately for the Kindle so may not be easy to read whereas .mobi is closer to the Amazon format & therefore may be the better option.

Funny... I Googled what formats the Kindle supported but I didn't think to Google how those formats worked!

Sadly, I don't have an eReader, so I have no personal experience on which is easier on the eyes.

Let me know about the Kindle, I've read some less than flattering reviews regarding battery life, and availability of e-books (and their price).

Apparently, regardless to which e-reader you choose, open-source "Caliber" is great for organizing your library & can do some format conversions... which opens up where you can get books from.
