Cecil Sharp and Maud Karpeles are well known in ethnomusicology. They were the front-runners from a time when it wasn't called "ethnomusicology" but rather just "folklore collection" or similar. There was a lot of emphasis on retention of culture and purity of the songs (ie transmission without any modernizing influences); any songs that weren't "authentic" or pure were disregarded. That attitude is not common nowadays in the field but was very much the norm at the time and of course is a valuable part of the history of the field. Also very interesting to me is the manner in which the slide show is presented, I've been looking for something like that to present my research with my photographer collaborater. Thanks for posting!
