I HATE Flies

I went down to the barn to ride last night to find Ariel's eyes all sore, swollen & full of icky white gunge... as far as we could tell she hadn't injured them, it's just the flies irritating them. So I spend an hour pressing a cold cloth against them to try & bring the swelling down... they looked a little better by the time I left.  :(

This last month the flies have been really bad... usually it's mozzies but this year it's been flies... the repellant sprays don't seem to be working either. A week or so ago I couldn't ride her because she had bad bites along her girth line & now this... poor Ariel! :( I hate effing flies!

So shuffledog I'm afraid I'm not going to get to see you die tonight but I have to go back down & make sure she's not any worse... otherwise it'll be time to call the vet... dread to think what that will cost!

Another note while down the barn... Wendi had Miika & Deja in while I was there... Mikka was finishing up his feed while she was getting Deja ready... all of a sudden we hear Miika go nuts... his front legs are slipping & sliding trying to find purchase on the floor made wet with the food he's spilt... the lead rope is up over his head... we think he managed to get it wrapped around twice rather than the once he usually manages... when he finally sorts himself out, having scared himself shitless, we notice blood dripping from his mouth... upon investigation we find a split lip & a bottom tooth missing... this is the second time he's knocked his teeth out... trouble is I don't think it's baby teeth this time!
