[profile] garething started this off by asking how each of us got started in the SCA...

Well I was searching the net for a friend who was interested in collecting replica swords... one of the sites that popped up was the main SCA site. From there I discovered I lived in a Kingdom called An Tir, a Principality called Avacal and a Barony called Montengarde. Through all these links I found the Montengarde website. Looking through it I discovered that there were archery practices. I'd done archery way back when I was in middle/junior high school & it was something I'd enjoyed & always intended taking up again. I emailed the Captain of Archers, [personal profile] not_the_dog& received an e-mail back from the Chatelaine, [profile] speed_ball_boy. He advised me that a "Tavern" was coming up & suggested I come & introduce myself, which I did. I remember wearing a green stretchy velvet dress, meeting lots of people in cool clothes & playing a board game of some description... not Tablero, I would have remembered that!

The w/e after that Tavern was Beltaine & I managed to make myself an outfit in time... yes in true SCAdian fashion I finished it at some ungodly hour the night before the event. Yes I still have & still wear that dress... the one I wore last week for the CPO event. Beltaine was held at the rehab centre & the meal was potluck... I hadn't a clue what to take & don't remember what I ended up getting. I remember Margareta taking me under her wing & showing me the ropes, making sure I had a plate & cutlery. She was new to Montengarde but not new to the game & knew at least a few people in the Barony. Between her & Throvald's stories I was kept entertained & learnt lots during my first feast. Later I joined in the dancing & enjoyed it far more than I expected... I wasn't a big fan of dancing in school! After it was over I went back to Margareta's house with a few others & listens as people sang & told stories until the wee hours... & I was hooked!

I did make it to archery practice eventually & it's something I keep meaning to do more of if I ever want to have any hope of improving my skills... if only there was enough time to do everything I wanted to do!

Since then I've played the game sporadically with some events standing out in memory more than others... the DragonSlayer event that drowned was one such event as it was there that I won my first Arts & Sciences competition, the noseband that Ariel is wearing in my userpic was my entry. I also received my first award, for my contribution to A&S which meant a great deal :)
